Afer*Nova was founded by Dr. Detina Zalli and Thomas Drake McGuffey when they met at University of Cambridge. Detina brings fifteen years of teaching, course creation and curriculum design together with Tom’s thirty-year career in large corporations, small business and consulting.

Together they envisioned a partnership in which Afer*Nova would provide education focused on genomics and its critical role in the medicine of today and the future. But it is no ordinary vision, as they seek to develop true world-class leaders in genomics and associated aspects of AI, space science and personalized medicine.

They do so by providing not just a medical / technical curriculum, but by building courses steeped in leadership and entrepreneurship; with students publishing scientific papers; providing extensive personal mentoring and a long-term network for continued collaboration among students.

After the completion of their genomic medical program Afer*Nova’s students are expected to commit to providing outreach and mentorship to their peer healthcare professionals in underdeveloped countries.
